Welcome to IIYC

Welcome to the Internet In Your Classroom Institute Blog. As you work your way through the institute, you will post your observations and comments to this blog. At the end, we should have the collective wisdom of the group recorded.

I find it hard to do new things online. I am not sure what HTML tags are all about.

All HTML tags mean is that you can bold your text, do italics, etc. Notice that the word "bold" is bold and in italics?

You put the < b > before the word to be bolded and then < /b > after. Your browser makes everything in between bold. For this example, I put spaces in there but to make it work leave no spaces before or after the "b".

Here's a web-based activity about Harriet Tubman for primary age children.
www.pocanticohills.org/tubman/tubman.html - 11k - Cached - Similar pages. It is great for Black History month. My students enjoyed the site.

I really like the scavenger hunts -they are a great way to tie computers into whatever unit you happen to be working on.

I was not able to access the Canadian Copyright Laws link - did anyone else have a problem or is it just my computer?

I found the evaluating websites sites really helpful. I think we should start educating our students how to be critical of what they see on the internet and how to be safe while they are online. This is information that would be great to pass along to parents as well.

I enjoyed the scavenger hunts too but I have one question. One of the questions was to find the name of a temple that was shown in a picture. Any helpful hints on how to find what the image is called?
